Hamish Jamieson is an Australian cellist with a growing reputation as a dynamic and versatile performer across solo, chamber, and orchestral stages. A graduate of the Australian National Academy of Music (2022), Hamish has performed with leading Australian ensembles including the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
Internationally, Hamish was selected to participate in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy 2023, performing as Associate Principal Cello under the baton of Sir George Benjamin, touring to major European halls including BOZAR Brussels, Konzerthaus Dortmund, and the Cologne Philharmonie. Hamish was also selected for the highly competitive Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra in 2023. During the festival, Hamish performed as Principal Cello for two ensemble tours: the Baroque program directed by the legendary Ton Koopman, and the festival’s flagship orchestral tour of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5 conducted by Christoph Eschenbach, with performances at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Frauenkirche Dresden, and the Rheingau Musik Festival in Wiesbaden. He was also selected for the Australian Youth Orchestra’s flagship seasons and international tour in 2019, and returned as Principal Cello of the AYO Momentum Ensemble in 2023. In 2022, he was awarded third prize in the Australian Youth Classical Music Competition, one of the country’s leading performance platforms for emerging instrumentalists.
In 2023, Hamish was selected as an Emerging Artist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, touring nationally and receiving mentorship from principal players. Following the completion of the program, he was invited to continue performing with the ACO Collective and ACO itself. Recent highlights include the 2025 ACO Brahms and Beethoven tour, and chamber performances at the Orange Chamber Music Festival as part of the ACO Collective Quartet. He has also appeared as guest cellist with the Sydney-based Chroma Quartet, and maintains an active chamber music profile across the country.
Equally at home in modern and historical performance practice, Hamish brings a thoughtful, collaborative approach to all his music-making. Hamish is currently studying a Master of Arts under Professor Josephine Knight at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where he is being supported by scholarships from the Leverhulme Trust and the Ian Potter Cultural Trust.
